When Newton Aycliffe based The Workplace approached us to help them redesign their unused atrium space we were delighted to help.

The space is part of the main thoroughfare in the Business Centre yet it was barely occupied and the space uninviting and lacked comfort appeal.

Firstly we designed a new flooring concept that covered 400sqm from the entrance to the new work lounge.  We chose Forbo Flooring adhesive free, acoustic vinyl floor Modul’up for the main walkway areas, together with Modul’up Concrete to form a path effect up both sides, and Modul’up Oak to form a boardwalk style effect through the centre.  A circle in Modul’up Resin Kiwi was formed around the spiral staircase which ties in beautifully with The Work Place’s brand colour.

Softness to the work lounge was introduced with the UK’s first installation of Forbo Flooring Flotex Vortex by Philippe Starck.  Described by Starck as “organised chaos of the wind on the field”, the grey and green tones of this Flotex design brings the “outside in” through the huge glass windows in the lounge.

A variety of soft seating has been introduced with high back and lounge chairs with matching sofas.  We chose to upholster the furniture in a range of Agua fabrics ensuring the softness, warmth and colour complimented The Work Place’s brand colours but also offers durability to a potentially high footfall area.
