Cravens had a vision of how their new space was to look and feel. The brief "create a relaxing atmosphere, full of wood, calming lighting, a den full of creative zen" - did we fulfil that? We think so!

Built c1900, Cathedral Buildings on Dean Street in Newcastle is a beautiful building with high ceilings and cast iron features. The design for leading creative agency Cravens, was to work with these elements and highlight features that had been either painted over or boarded up.

Acoustic LVT flooring was installed in a herringbone effect which elongates the floor space. Chosen in a stunning oak effect, this alone adds to the natural vibe we wanted to create here.

Raw effect materials were used throughout with concrete wall coverings used as a striking focal point on entering the both office suites.  Solid wood furniture with dark metal edging worked beautifully with the dark iron brackets that sit in the corner of the 3.5m high ceiling and the iron cage and plant feature that hangs over the striking table and benching in the centre of the room.

The communal areas are one of the most important aspects of this whole design. Whether it be team meetings, thinking space, lunch dates,  client events or after work meet ups, this had to be a multi-functional space with a distinct design.

The space is bright, light and welcoming.  Mix that with dark kitchen units, wood bench surfaces and contemporary double glass bar fridges and the smell of coffee, we’re on point with the vision that Cravens had for their workspace.

Zoning has been well thought out, with quiet spaces in the library, carpeted and soft seating which gives a very peaceful and serene space to breakaway too.  Coupled with the most amazing views of Newcastle Cathedral this space is really quite a sanctuary.

Post covid, the need for private areas for ‘zooms and teams’ meetings are in high demand.  Individual telephone pods were installed in areas to ensure these can continue in the open plan office.

Modern style desking was installed with ergonomic task chairs used in the workspace zones.  In the Boardroom, our panelled wall design painted in a calming blue together with modern meeting table and black and white credenzas gives a  wonderful twist of old and new.
